Orange has the best healthcare in regional Australia, rivalling (and often excelling) the healthcare in the major cities. The Orange hospital is the largest hospital in NSW outside of metropolitan Sydney with 170 ward beds and many transient services beds. This $250 million dollar facility was opened in May 2011 and provides medical services to the Central West region of NSW.
The mental health component of the campus is the only one of its kind in NSW and provides state wide services. It is integrally linked with medical services through Orange General Hospital and with training and research facilities such as the Universities of Sydney and Newcastle.
Additionally Orange also has a private hospital, Dudley Private Hospital. The hospital is a 57 bed facility that provides a comprehensive range of medical, surgical, rehabilitation and psychiatric services. The specialties include: anaesthetics; colorectal surgery; dental surgery; dermatology; ear, nose & throat surgery; gastroenterology; general medicine; general surgery; gynaecology; mental health; ophthalmology; orthopaedics; palliative care; rehabilitation; urology; and, vascular surgery.
A new private hospital has been approved for construction across the road from the Orange Health Service. The Orange Private Hospital Campus will also be a state of the art three storey hospital with surgery, emergency and medical imaging along with an 80 room medi-motel, short and medium term accommodation for staff and retail shops.
Orange is also served by a private Day Surgery Centre and an eye hospital. There are more than 120 medical specialists consulting in Orange.
